Set-up Event Recording in SonarWiz

Events are numbered markers stored in sub-bottom files. Event markers can be displayed in the sub-bottom analysis window to help the user identify sections of interest and keep analysis organized between different software packages.

Configure Event Recording

SonarWiz stores event numbers in the Energy Source Point field of sub-bottom CSF and SEG-Y records. This cannot be changed.

In order to ensure that both CSF and SEG-Y files recorded by SonarWiz are using the Energy Source Point field for event numbers, open the File Type Specific Options dialog to the SEG-Y tab and set the Event Number drop down to 17-20. Energy source point # (SonarWiz).

Triggering Events

Events in SonarWiz can be triggered in three ways:

  1. Automatically, by SonarWiz at specified time intervals using the Event Setup.. command in the Data Acquisition tool bar:

     

  2. Automatically, by 3rd Party Software using formatted navigation strings (see for more information)

  3. Manually, by clicking the Event Now! button in the Data Acquisition tool bar:

Importing Sub-Bottom Files with Event Records

To configure SonarWiz to read event numbers out of a sub-bottom file during import:

1. Open the File Type Specific Options dialog to the SEG-Y tab and set the Event Number drop down to the appropriate storage location:

Sub-bottom files recorded by SonarWiz will always store the event number in bytes 17-20. Energy source point # field. However, SEG-Y files created by other software may store event numbers in different byte locations. The following options are available:

2. Continue to import the SBP files.

Displaying Event Marks on the Sub-Bottom Profile

To display events on the sub-bottom profile:

  1. Open one of the sub-bottom profiles in the Sub-Bottom Analysis Window

  2. Select the Appearance tab and then Open the Annotation… dialog

     

  3. Select Annotate When Event Number Changes.

     

  4. You should see the EVT markers in the profile:
